Paris Saint-Germain troll Barcelona on Twitter after Neymar's release clause is paid

Neymar is extremely close to completing his world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain after Barcelona confirmed that his €222 million release clause has been paid by the Brazilian’s lawyers.

A statement on Barça’s website read: “On Thursday afternoon Neymar Jr's legal representatives visited in person the Club's offices and made the payment of 222 million euros in the player's name with regards to the unilateral termination of the contract that united both parties.

“As such, the Club will pass on to UEFA the details of the above operation so that they can determine the disciplinary responsibilities that may arise from this case.”

According to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, Neymar has signed a five-year contract and even wants to play in PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Amiens on Saturday.

    That would be some unveiling.

Some Barcelona fans have spent the past week in complete disarray, burning their Neymar shirts and blasting the 25-year-old on social media.

But there is one positive to take from the transfer. With just under a month remaining in the transfer window and an extra €222m to spend, Ernesto Valverde should have no problems in signing a high-profile replacement.

Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele, 20, seems like the most natural player to take up Neymar’s vacated position, with Paulo Dybala, Philippe Coutinho and Kylian Mbappe also linked with a move to the Camp Nou.

For PSG to sign one of Barça’s most important players must deliver such a buzz to the French club, especially considering their stunning exit from last season’s Champions League at the hands of the Spanish club, a tie that Neymar played a huge part in.

Neymar’s signing will help PSG to forget about that horrendous night in Barcelona where they threw away a 4-0 first leg lead to lose 6-5 on aggregate.

    PSG troll Barcelona on Twitter

The Parisiens are clearly enjoying this. They trolled Barcelona on Twitter after it was confirmed that Neymar’s release clause had been paid.

Barcelona have spent much of the summer trying to sign Marco Verratti from PSG. Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu even claimed the Italian “would love” to join the Blaugrana.

And PSG mocked the Spanish giants by posting a photo of Verratti winking, adding the caption: “Hope you’re having a great day! 👍😉”.
